Since 2016, Jan Zandbergen supports the Black Jaguar Foundation (BJF). Recently, Ben Valks of the BJF visited us for an update of the progresses of the project to help realize The Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor: one of the largest reforestation projects in Brazil.
Their enthusiasm and the achievements so far, have proven us right to support this project. That is why we have promised to extend our sponsorship for two years.
With the first support of Jan Zandbergen BV and a few other companies, BJF was able to carry out a pilot project consisting of mapping the area and biodiversity planning. Many local landowners who got in touch with the BJF are positive about their approach and are enthusiast to help. In 2018, the foundation wants to build the first two nurseries for native trees. It also wants to plant the first 25,000 trees before the rainy season in early November. The new funds go directly to these goals.
One of our slogans is ‘The world is our farm, Europe our market’. That also implicates that it is our responsibility to take care of that farm. Brazilian farmers are starting to realize that the success of agriculture depends on forests and their contribution to the environment. Jan Zandbergen is happy to encourage this positive mentality change by funding the BJF.
